About The Tree Amigos
The Tree Amigos primary school environment programme was launched in 2008 by Trees4Scotland, and since then over 750 primary school pupils have benefitted from the exciting and interactive content. The programme was designed to assist the great work that the schools are already doing via the Eco Schools programme, and to help them get their Green Flag status! How it works After an initial introductory visit each of the selected classes works through a series of mini projects covering:
The programme culminates with a fabulous field trip to Teaghlach Wood in Perthshire to get their hands dirty and plant some trees. Included in this visit is also a stop off in the village of Comrie to have a look round Cultibraggan Camp. Cultibraggan began life back in 1942 as a prisoner of war camp housing German and Italian prisoners but has now been reborn as an eco centre for the village. Activities How the programme is delivered varies from school to school, but the classes are encouraged to be as hands-on as possible and to educate the rest of the school as they go. All of the schools are asked to produce fabulous wall posters that go on display in Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports. In addition we have had stage plays, animated films, songs and a whole host of other ways in which to engage with the various topics. The Tree Amigos Website One of the main aims of this website is to encourage the schools to enagage with one another and share information. So thanks for doing so!
